Mosiah 2 - so many nuggets in this chapter to focus on, but my own comments in the margins hit me. Compare v38 to v41. We choose. We are promised numerous times that "if we keep the commandments (cost) we will prosper in the land (promise). However, I think v36-37 are chilling. ". . .if ye should transgress and go contrary. . . ye do withdraw yourselves from the Spirit of the Lord that it may have no place in you to guide you in wisdom's paths that ye may be blessed, prospered and preserved. v37 - . . . cometh out in open rebellion against god. . . enemy to all righteousness." Yikes! Why so chilling, you ask? This explains to me so clearly why so many in my world are so miserable. They have lost the Spirit and therefore the ability to be guided in wisdom and so they do totally stupid things that cause you to be in awe. They are NOT prospered or preserved.
V39 "Mercy hath no claim on that man (woman)". And the v41 "consider on the blessed and happy state of those who keep the commandments . . . blessed in ALL things, both temporal and spiritual. . . neverending happiness. . . "
My comment in the margin: "STAY FOCUSED!"
Just as a note, I'm intrigued at how the Handbook 2 seems to go hand-in-hand with what I'm reading currently. Section 1.3.2 Parents and Children (I'm paraphrasing here) Wise parents teach their children to apply the . . . Atonement within their family. Just as sin, mortal weaknesses, emotional hurt, and anger are conditions that separate God's children from Him, . . . they also separate us as family members. In other words, we pull away from our families when we are not keeping the commandments. I saw that in my own life; I see that in my children's' lives.
