Alma 63
My thoughts are few in this chapter. Things settle down some and Moroni dies. I’ve written he was 44! So young to have accomplished so much. Hagoth builds ships that carry many of the people of Nephi northward. They never heard from them again and supposed they had died at sea. But we know the rest of the story.
Clyde and I went to Hawaii in 1982 and went to the Polynesian Center that is on the island. I was blown away at having heard this account from a descendant of one of those who entered the ship. He bore testimony to us of his grandfathers entering a ship many generations ago. It was a real testimony builder to me. He showed us where it was written in the Book of Mormon – Alma 63.
The last few verses in Alma 63, the Lamanites give one last effort to come against the Nephites, but they were beaten back. The Nephites have apparently at this time become strong enough to defeat them. And it is at this point the plates are handed down to Helaman, the son of Helaman. The next book in the Book of Mormon is one to be studied carefully. I’ve written in the margin that it parallels our day – Pay Attention!
