Alma 61
Yesterday I read Moroni’s epistle to Pahoran. He really reamed him for not supporting the armies who were making his life more comfortable. He gave some unfair accusations because he didn’t know the reason why they weren’t getting supplies and additional help. He threatened to leave his post to come after Pahoran if things didn’t change.
Today’s reading we are shown how to respond to unjust accusations in a Christ-like way. Pahoran rejoiced in Moroni’s goodness. This is a critical trait to embrace in any of our interactions with others: Find what is good with them. We all want to feel that what we are doing that is right is noticed and appreciated. This is a need in all of us. Well, Moroni was good and doing what the Lord had commanded him, so this was an easy thing for Pahoran to acknowledge. Sometimes it is not quite so easy.
Pahoran uses the opportunity to reiterate the purpose of their conflict which is the American Covenant as described in Tim Ballard’s book, “The American Covenant”. The Lord has created this land to be a land of freedom so we will worship Him. As long as the majority of people are fighting for its cause (v21 - . . . stand fast in that liberty wherewith God hath made them free), they will be strengthened and protected.
As a people, we need to remember at all costs the purpose of this great land – to be free to worship the Lord as we choose, but to worship him, to protect our homes and families, and to live worthy of these blessings we seek by keeping the commandments of God and worshiping him.
Marching orders for this day: Find the good in others and continue to keep the commandments.
