Daughters of Zion Take Heed

Isaiah 3 (aka 2 Nephi 13) is a most sobering chapter and even though they are the words of Isaiah, they are easy to be understood.

I’ve been taught in classes that whenever we read the words “and in that day”, that it is our day – the last days before the Savior comes.  This chapter needs to be carefully searched.

V5 is plain to see that children grow up without the respecting their elders.  The people will be oppressed by everyone and the “child shall behave himself proudly against the ancient”, the elderly, aka parents and grandparents.  We see children suing their parents for injustices they perceive.  Oh we’re definitely there.

V6 – nobody wants to be a leader of this mess that has been created.  I see it in our nation today.  The only ones who want to lead this country are those with evil intent.   The one time we have a really good man run for President, his goodness is too much for anyone to trust.  What!?

V9 – My all-time favorite scripture that doesn’t necessarily bring comfort but certainly understanding.  “The show of their countenance doth witness against them, and doth declare their sin to be even as Sodom, and they cannot hide it.  Wo unto their souls, for they have rewarded evil unto themselves.”  Although we are told not to judge, it is evident when a person has lost the Spirit.  It does show in their countenance, and it is a hard thing to watch when it is a loved one.  I’ve written numerous times of my own experience of changing.  It’s real – both directions!

V16-24 Can you see the descriptive attire worn by the daughters of Zion in these verses?  Is it any wonder Pres. Hinckley counseled us to limit our earrings to one per ear?  Accessorizing has become the norm in today’s world.  And I haven’t quite figured out why the perfume industry has made their products almost noxious – and certainly they are to a few.  I looked up the meaning to “rent” this time.  “Instead of a girdle, a rent.”  A girdle is anything from a belt to a cord.  In our day, it holds the shape of a woman in and hides the fat – elasticized corset from waist to thigh.  “Rent” is a large tear in a piece of fabric.  This is a real visual to me.  Our glutinous style of eating will show.  Maybe there is deeper meaning, but this is easily understood.

These are just a few, and they are sobering enough.  When you look in the dictionary for the words you “think” you might know, it is very telling and worthy of serious reflection to see where you line up.
