Have I Done Any Good?

Alma 25

Lamanites continue their plundering and evil ways. The seed of King Noah perish just like Abinadi said they would (by fire), and many of the Lamanites, after they saw the dedication of the people of Anti-Nephi-Lehi were converted.

What must it have been like for those serving (Omni, Himni, Ammon and Aaron) to have witnessed this and know that it was because of their efforts to risk their very lives to preach the gospel to them? I'm sure their hearts were filled with love for these people and they were pleased and overjoyed. Some day I hope to influence the life of another to the point that they lay down their “weapons” of war and join the Lord's people. As far as a bonafide mission, that will have to wait for a while. But what am I doing today? Some days I go to bed and I wonder: “Have I done any good in the world today?” Life definitely gets in the way – or so it seems. But it is in day-to-day living that we have our biggest influence. That said, I must remember to always have the Spirit with me that what I do and say will be what the Lord would have me do.

I like what was said about the Lamanites who “buried their weapons of war”. What did they do to fill the void left when they were not going about plundering and causing angst for the people of the Lord? (v14-16)
“. . .they did walk in the ways of he Lord,” What does it look like to walk in the ways of the Lord?
Keep the law of Moses (for them) Today it would be keep the commandments.
Look forward to the coming of Christ (We look forward to the second coming of our Savior and prepare for that day.)
Strengthened their faith in Christ. How would I do that today? Through daily reading of scriptures, praying, attending the temple, Sunday worship, fasting and so forth.
Retain a hope through faith unto eternal salvation. Keep your eye on the ball. What is the end goal? I think a lot of people lose sight of that. They give up and think life is hard and forget that it is a test to see just how much we want to return to our Heavenly Father. Hope. Hope for the eternal life.

So, what do I get from this today? For one, I need to attend the temple this week. I've let life get in the way of my becoming. Sometimes that happens. I need to focus more on “doing good” and less on doing. Wow! Some days that looks really big.
