3 Nephi 25
Jesus tells them about the last days and how the proud and wicked will burn as stubble, but Elijah will return before that day. When he does, the hearts of the children will turn to the fathers; the hearts of the fathers will turn to the children. Genealogy!
Verse 1 says the proud and wicked “shall burn them up” and leave them without “root nor branch”. What is meant by root and branch? The root represents those who came before me. The branch represents my children. In other words, we will be without our loved ones.
I have in my margins a note: Neglecting FHE is the same as neglecting genealogy. This came from a class I took and we talked extensively on this topic. We are responsible to see the work is done in both directions, i.e. our children have been endowed. The best way to ensure this is weekly FHE and drop by drop providing them an opportunity to feel the spirit and know they are loved by Heavenly Father and that families are the Lord’s plan.
So my family is raised. How does this apply to me today? I suspect my example is all I have to go on now. I also suspect the day will come when we will be teaching families this principle. Actually, I am teaching this to our BYU ward as we have FHE at our home once a month.
