The Lord keeps His promises

3 Nephi 27

Jesus commands them to call the Church in his name.  The doctrine of Christ is set forth and men are commanded to repent, be baptized, received the Holy Ghost and be even as Jesus is.  In other words – do as he has done and endure to the end.

It is amazing to me the number of times the 4th Article of Faith is called out in the scriptures.  This chapter has these principles mentioned two or three times.  Again I must say, it’s pretty simple.  Then as Jesus is speaking to the disciples, he tells them to do as they have seen him do.  In verse 2, he said to them “What will ye that I shall give unto you?”  In other words – What can I do for you?  I’m beginning to realize these are powerful words.  As I have visited the wards in my stake, I’ve struggled with what it is I’m supposed to do there.  After all, I’m just an observer.  As I have implemented this one principle, I have noticed a real shift in the relationship I have with the presidencies in our stake.  When I ask them after their meetings how I can help them, there have been a few times I’ve had questions.  Usually, they are just pleased that I was with them during their meetings though.  I’ve also noticed my Stake President always asks how he can help the Relief Society in our stake.  This was the first thing he asked me at our first meeting after I was called.  He was teaching me.

I’m not certain where I’m going with this.  It’s just something I have noticed.  It is also a nice conversation picker-upper when you’re visiting and trying to be on the Lord’s errand to those around you.  I’ve gone into the homes of a few people I don’t even know.  I usually take a loaf of bread and use the excuse that I want to know them.  I’ve started asking if I can help them with anything.  I think it has helped to break the ice and make friends.

We too have “. . .come into the world to do the will of [the] Father.” V13.  We will be judged by our works (v15); and it behooves all of us to find out what the Lord’s will is and try to incorporate it into our lives.  So how do we go about that one?  V29 – “Therefore, ask, and ye shall receive; knock, and it shall be opened unto you; for he that asketh, receiveth; and unto him that knocketh, it shall be opened.”  It has been my experience from the first time I knelt and seriously asked.  Miracles occurred too numerous to even begin to talk about in this forum.  But I know the Lord is good on this one promise.
