Alma 24 – Anti-Nephi-Lehi’s bury their weapons and refuse to fight Lamanites. There were 1005 slain. Some of the Lamanites are touched by this and lay down their weapons and join the Anti-Nephi-Lehi’s – more than the number that were slain.
It is the last two verses in the chapter that are sobering and a serious concern to me. There were none whose hearts softened who were Amalekites or Amulonites. Why? Who where they. They were once enlightened by the truth and fell away – aka apostates. Their state is worse than if they had never had the knowledge.
I am seeing so many of our young people fall into this trap. It is a grave concern as a parent and as I serve in the BYU stake, and all the more reason to work so hard to help our young people. What is that work? We can’t beat it into them. Our example of how the gospel brings us joy is our biggest tool!
