Alma 18 – The servants of King Lamoni tell the king of Ammon’s success at rounding up the king’s flocks after the Lamanites had scattered them. They told him Ammon cut off the arms of those who came after him and appeared to be indestructible. The king went through several emotions when he heard this. First – awe. Then fear because he figured that Ammon must be the Great Spirit his fathers had told him about. He was astonished at Ammon’s diligence in doing all that he was asked to do by the king. The king wanted to know about Ammon and Ammon started at the very beginning – the creation. He told him that man is created in God’s image and that he (Ammon) was only a man.
After Ammon teaches the king, he marveled at his power to discern his very thoughts. He believes and then desires to repent.
This is one of the greatest conversion stories in the Book of Mormon. So, how can I apply this in my own life? Note to self: Remember this - When I have an opportunity to share the gospel, I must remember to start at the beginning – the creation and then work forward. So what of those who were raised with this knowledge and choose to reject it? The first question that must be answered is this: Do you believe in God? Until the answer is in the affirmative, it seems pretty futile to further the discussion.
