Alma 34 – Osama Bin Ladin is on the minds of all of us these days as the Navy Seals found him and killed him last week. Much is being said about him burning in hell. My mind has been troubled by what the scriptures say about evil and the hereafter. Where exactly is Osama in his progression or lack thereof?
Alma 34:34 makes it pretty clear that “that same spirit which doth possess your bodies at the time that ye go out of this life . . . will have power to possess your body in that eternal world.” I have written in the margin “this life=birth to resurrection”. I wish I had the reference, but it came from a class I attended.
We know all spirits return to that God who gave them life, AKA Jesus. Did Osama feel love at that greeting? Christ died for him too. If Osama is the same as verse 34 suggests, will he be able to feel that love? In verse 35 it says “he is subjected to the devil”. Still? D&C 138:25-37 makes it clear all will be taught and that some will still reject truth.
There are many unanswered questions, but this I know: God loves all his children. Osama is a child of God, but the choice is still Obama’s to make.
