High Standards - Our Fence of Defense

Alma 49 - Amalakiah and his armies are unsuccessful in overpowering the Nephites.  Because of their previous success, they supposed the same would happen this time.

However, the Nephites had learned from their previous experience.  They dug up a ridge so high the Lamanites could not get to them except through the entrance (door).  They were prepared.  This teaches us as parents that we must be ever vigilant in watching what and who comes into our homes.  What do we let influence our families?

Verse 23 – Nephites had all power over their enemies.

Verse 30 – Peace and great rewards for their efforts to be prepared and keep their standards (walls) high.  They were diligent and gave heed to the word of God.  As parents we need to teach our children to keep their standards high and be ever diligent in heeding the word of God – scriptures as well as current prophets.

We aren’t promised to be without conflict.  We are promised that as we have faith to fight with righteousness, we will be blessed – even with peace and prosperity.

Bottom line:  Keep standards high.  They will become our fence of defense.
