Alma 45 - Alma gives the records to Helaman after interviewing him to know of his commitment to the gospel. He also prophecies to Helaman of the destruction of the Nephites 400 years after the coming of Christ. Then Alma leaves and is never heard from again - perhaps translated like Moses.
Wars and dissensions continue between the Lamanites and Nephites – once family!
As a parent, I can visualize this quite easily. What do we do as parents when we see our own children in a state of discord? V21 has the answer: “. . . word of God should be declared among them. . . “
That’s easier said, as some have closed their hearts. The only way is by example – that our example will be a testimony of the word.
It is disheartening to read V24 “. . . they grew proud . . . because of their exceedingly great riches . . . and would not give heed. . . ” Pride is definitely a stumbling block. It seems the more a person gets, the more they want and feel entitled to, and their desires for the things of the world are insatiable and become the focus rather than serving God and keeping His commandments.
Yes, the cycle is easier to see as you grow older.
