Alma 33 – I love the scriptures! Alma 33 is one of my favorites. How? How does one plant the seed of faith? As we have serious conversations with our children, wouldn’t it be wise to open the scriptures?
- Verse 2 – Worship God; search scriptures (I like the word “search” – not merely read.)
- Pray – Verse 3-11 tells us how and where
o Wilderness – What is my wilderness?
o For enemies – Who are my enemies?
o Field – AKA work place
o House – Where we live
o Congregations – Wherever we gather with others who worship God
o When we are cast out – or even feel like out casts
o Despised – or when we feel despised
o Afflictions – all afflictions
o Be sincere – really want it!
As we do so, we will find joy! How is that done? Because we will begin to “get it”, to understand God’s way of doing things, and this is because of Christ and His Atonement.
Several times we are told to read the scriptures. I feel this is at least part of the “look” thing asked of the Israelites. Some don’t “look” (aka read scriptures) because their hearts are hard and they don’t believe it will work. Just “plant the seed”; nourish it daily.
Once I went through my scriptures and wrote in the margins when a promise was made. In verse 23, Alma promises: Burdens lightened. The Cost: Study scriptures; nourish by faith. Why would you not want your burdens lightened?
