Alma 48 – While Amalakiah was preparing the Lamanites to go to war through his speech against the Nephites, Moroni “prepares the minds of the people to be faithful to the Lord their God.” V7
Hate is a passion. It destroys. It is infectious against others as well as the person who hates and is to be avoided like the plague. It can consume.
Faithfulness to the Lord is also a passion. It can be infectious. It too can become all consuming, but is focused outward to the welfare of others.
Moroni prepared the people through his faithfulness. He was an amazing leader who had righteous qualities:
- Perfect understanding
- Did not delight in bloodshed
- Found joy in liberty for self and others
- Thankful heart to God
- Labored exceedingly for others
- Firm in faith of Christ
- Made oath to defend people
At the risk of making this a political entry, wouldn’t it be wonderful if we could elect leaders of similar character? How sad that the majority of people willing to risk running are more like Amalakiah than Moroni.
So how does this apply to me? For starters, let's look at the list of qualities Moroni possess? Treat it as a personal checklist. There are always areas that could be improved upon.
