Sincerity

Alma 36 is one of my favorite chapters.  It could have something to do with my own conversion.  Alma is going about with the sons of Mosiah causing the church problems through their bad example.  An angel appears and says if you want to destroy yourselves, fine; but you can't be allowed to continue to destroy the church.  These words seared his soul and for three days and three nights he was racked in hellish pain.  Then he remembered what he had been taught about Jesus and cried out to him - "Oh Jesus, thou son of God, have mercy on me. . . "

My experience was similar in that I prayed for my parents' prayers in my behalf to be answered. I said I would do whatever God wanted me to do.  What an experience for me!  It was just as life changing for me as it was for Alma.  I have been so blessed from that moment on.

Why doesn't it work that way for others?  I believe it is a sincerity issue.
