Alma 42 – Alma continues to teach Corianton about the “plan” – called “plan of happiness” (v8), “plan of redemption” (v11), “plan of mercy” (v15).
He told Corianton of Adam and Eve and the fall. They were told all fruit was for them to eat except the fruit from the tree of knowledge of good and evil.
There was also the tree of life (Moses 3:9). I wrote in the margin “what is the tree of life”? Moses says it was spiritual when it was created. Used for food – even though they were not yet in a state where food was needed to sustain life. A flash! This same food (spiritual food, aka reading scriptures, temple worship, seeking after righteousness) is not needed to sustain life in our mortal existence either. Will we eat of the tree of life? Do we? Are we free to “partake of the waters of life” freely? Since the tree of life was spiritual food, does that mean spiritual water as well? i.e. The Gospel? Blessings given because we partake? We certainly are free to partake of as much or as little as we want. I testify that the more we partake, the stronger we become spiritually, i.e. our testimonies and the values we embrace.
